COXES

We currently have ten qualified (competent) coxes and two cox in training.

Everyone in the club has been invited to train as a cox and we have a programme to facilitate that.

Competent coxes tend to work with a specific crew though we often cover for one another when needed.  Coxes in training are supervised by competent coxes to support their coxing development.

Ye Olde Coxes

Our club began with three dedicated coxes; Rhoda, Liv and Nikki.  They worked tirelessly at weekends to make sure all the new club members got out on the water.

During Covid Nikki began training up new coxes with training sessions and when we could get back on the water anyone who fancied trying coxing out could have a go.

Newer coxes

Kelly, Richard, Pippa, Sue, James and Cat qualified since cox training club began.  Austin joined ARC in the last year from another rowing club.

Most recently Jacqui, Mark, Oli and Adam in 2023, have all been signed off.

Pippa, Richard, Cat and Oli have all become race coxes with the support of Nikki and their crews.

We meet regularly to discuss various aspects of coxing and the

training programme.

Here's Oli - very competent & very comfortable

Coxes in Training

We also have coxes in training (CiT) at various stages.

CiT have opportunities to cox rows with a competent cox in the boat.  This offers regular practice time to gain the skills and experience necessary to get signed off.

We rowed, when permitted, during the pandemic following CPGA and British Rowing Guidelines.

Here's Adam, newly qualified, taking his job seriously.
